Currently, several amenities at the complex are not up to state code, including the restrooms, the concession stand and playground area.
Carolyn Bland, a member of the Recreation Committee, admitted to not being “up to snuff” with the Americans with Disabilities Act, however said that updating the facilities was going to be a “primary focus” of the board’s efforts over coming months.
Recreation Director Jerry Radford said he was not specifically notified of the denial, saying the notification came through Judge Executive Berlin Moore.
“All we got was word of mouth, the official response came through the judge and he told Carolyn (Bland) that we didn’t get it,” Radford said.
Moore called the notice “a standard rejection,” but said that reapplying in limited individual terms would improve the committee’s chances at getting some funding from the state.
“I feel that we will get (grants), we just need to be smarter about it,” Moore said.
