Trigg High senior Alex Jenkins said that the high school’s activities were being coordinated by members of the Service Learning Youth Council, of which she is a member, and the Youth Leadership Program. She said that this year’s national theme is “Look At Me – I’m Drug Free,” and that students can submit an essay by Friday for a contest. They can choose either that theme or their own.
Bracelets reading, “Proud to Be Drug Free” were handed out in classes on Monday by team leaders. Jenkins said that Principal Neal Cummins thought of using bracelets instead of ribbons this year because they might get more students’ attention.
Jenkins said there would be plenty of other activities as well. The band Street Heat will perform today (Oct. 24) for middle school students and the fifth grade. Today is also Wear Red Day. Any high school or middle school student who wore red today could submit their name at the front office for a prize drawing. Jenkins said there would also be cupcakes for the staff on Wednesday. On Thursday, middle school students will be asked to sign cards pledging to never use drugs. The same activity will occur at the high school on Friday.
