This year’s Relay for Life activities will kick off on Monday, May 5, with the annual survivors dinner and will continue when the main event starts on May 9.

Relay co-chair Dannye Wagner said the survivor’s dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Cadiz Baptist Church Annex. She said that the Bank of Cadiz sponsors the event, and that bank employees plan and serve the dinner, as well as greet the attending survivors.

Wagner said that Dr. Mace Rothenberg would be a guest at the dinner. Rothnberg is a medical oncologist from Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, and specializes in Phase I drug development and clinical trial design. He is recognized nationally and internationally as an expert on clinical trial design, and was selected as a recipient of the 2008 American Cancer Society Lane W. Adams Quality of Life Award. The purpose of the award is to allow the American Cancer Society to single out key role models across the country who each day provide compassionate cancer care that goes beyond the call of duty. Rothenberg was magistrate Gene Wright’s clinical trial doctor, and his son, Mike Wright, nominated Rothenberg for the award.
