“I’ve lived on Cunningham Avenue for eight years. It used to be a wonderful place to live, but it is not the same street,” said resident Matt Hinck. “We see a lot of traffic violations, dogs are running wild and we hear loud music all the time. I’ve had to tell people to turn down their speakers. It should not be that way.”
Hinck said that while the street is posted as a 25 mile-per-hour zone, he guessed that motorists might reach 65 miles-per-hour on the street. “We also have a drug problem. I was in the Army and know something about observation. I’ve seen cars make laps around the street that have odd license plates. This could be stopped with simple traffic stops.”
Calling the neighborhood a “negative environment,” Hinck said that he has rarely confronted neighbors about their behavior, but has done so when one whistled lewdly at his pregnant wife. He added that he moved to the area after a home invasion in 2000 while living in Gracey.
Mike McQuaid, also of Cunningham Avenue said that he moved to the neighborhood two years ago after being stationed at Ft. Campbell. “We decided to live in Cadiz because it was quiet and didn’t have any of the big town influences. The main problem now is the speeding and the loud music.”
McQuaid said that at least four to five times nightly, his daughter is roused from sleep by loud music. When discussing the speeding on the street, he added, “My kids are not allowed out front. The way we do things in the military is to use a problem-solution model, and I think the solution here is to use some speed bumps. People on the street are willing to do the work if they are provided with materials.”
