Another high school student from Trigg County has been accepted into the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky at Western Kentucky.

Ann Marie Rittenhouse was accepted into the prestigious school two weeks ago. She will live on the WKU campus attending advanced classes for the next two school years. She is currently a sophomore at University Heights Academy in Hopkinsville.

Ann Marie’s father, John Rittenhouse, said that Ann Marie had been talking about applying to the school for the last six months or so. He said he thought that she would handle the challenge of the rigorous classes and being away from home well.

“It takes a mature person to do this,” John said. “Getting in is one thing, but handling it is another.”

Ann Marie said she was looking forward to the opportunity and thought it was great that the classes would earn her college credit.

“It’s pretty much like having the last two years of high school and the first two years of college at the same time,” she said.
