Retired at the time of her death, she had served as an elementary teacher and librarian for 47 years in the Hopkinsville Independent Schools and the Christian County Schools. She began her teaching career as a 17 year old young woman in a one room school at Casey Creek in Trigg County and also taught in the Gracey Public School. She was a member of the West Union Baptist Church, the First Baptist Church of Hopkinsville, Cadiz Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Bowling Green.
She was the wife of the late Robert Alton Bridges, She was the daughter of the late Robertson and Daisy Shelton. Her foster daughter, Lysbeth Cameron, died in 1997. She is survived by her son, Rev. Richard W. Bridges and his wife, Sandra, of Bowling Green; by two grandsons, Robert A. Bridges II and his wife, Lauren, of Allen County, and J. Wilson Bridges of New York City. Two great-grandchildren, Emma Grace Bridges and Alton Monroe Bridges, also survive, as well as nephews Chris Cameron of Scottsboro, AL, and Richard Kip Cameron of Hopkinsville, and a niece, Susan Clifton of Paducah.
Family memorial services will be held at a time to be announced later. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to any local congregation.
