Rev. Peggy Smith, and Rev. Steve Broadbent officiated at the service, with Dorothy Southall giving the Eulogy. Burial followed in Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Christian County.
Mr. Sholar died on Saturday, September 3, 2005, at 1:45 p.m., at Trigg County Hospital, of natural causes.
Mr. Sholar was born on September 18, 1914, in Trigg County. He was the son of the late Jesse Smoot and Anna Rosella Choate Sholar.
Mr. Sholar was a retired farmer; a member of Oakland United Methodist Church; and a member of HONORS—Order of the Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Hayden Sholar; two sisters, Icie Lawrence, and Nell Francis.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Lula Pearl Lancaster Sholar; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Charles and Gretchen Sholar of Virginia Beach, Va., Richard Earl and Karen Sholar of Cadiz, and Clyde Jefferson and Brenda Sholar of Pleasureville; four daughters and son-in-law, Ruby Pearl and Bobby Allen, Mary Louise Foster, and Linda Rose Sholar, all of Cadiz, and Brenda Sue Lancaster of Clarksville, Tenn.; a brother, Kelly Wallace Sholar of Cadiz; a sister, Mary Frances Herndon of Cadiz; eight grandchildren, Bobby Ray Allen, Jr., Kenneth Anthony Foster, Jacqueline Foster Kennedy, Terry Lee Hendon, Audrey Allen Scott, Christopher Scott Wallis, Catherine Michelle Foster, and Jessica Sholar Drawbaugh; and nine great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Bobby Ray Allen, Jr., Kenneth Anthony Foster, Terry Lee Hendon, Christopher Scott Wallis, Ricky Drawbaugh, and Justin Allen.
Honorary pallbearers were Steve Scott, Monroe Lancaster, Rev. James Bush, Dorothy Southall, Joe Lacy Lancaster, Jr., Terry Parker, David Sholar, Freda Maxey, Donnie Shemwell, and Don Herndon.
Rev. Roy Marquess, Jr., vocalist, and Martha Fortner, organist provided the music.
