Funeral services for Sam Shoemaker, 85, of Cadiz, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Goodwin Funeral Home. The Revs. Irvin Darnall and Roy Marquess, Jr. officiated. Burial followed at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Trigg County.

Mr. Shoemaker died of natural causes at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 in his home.

He was born January 5, 1925 in Tobaccoport, Tenn. to the late William Henry and Edna Earl Harris Shoemaker.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was a retired painter.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Alene Meadows, Robbie Broadbent, Marcrette Patterson; and one nephew, Bill Meador.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Dawson Shoemaker of Cadiz; one sister, Ann Calhoun of Cadiz; two sons, Samuel Ray (and wife Elizabeth) Thomas of Cleveland, Tenn. and Bobby (and wife Bobbi) Shoemaker of Cadiz; two daughters, Judy (and husband Don) Hunter of Whitehouse, Tenn. and Linda (and husband Rev. Richard) Sexton of Cadiz; ten grandchildren, Adam and Daniel Thomas, Natasha, Brooklyn and Taylor Shoemaker, Summer Papajeski, Michelle Stites, Emily Ann McAllister, Tommy Sexton and Stassis Sexton; five great grandchildren, Alivia and Adrian Shoemaker, Alex Walker, Dillon Wallace and Tyler Stites; two nieces and three nephews.

Pallbearers were Tommy and Stassin Sexton, Adam and Daniel Thomas, and Chris Stites. Music was provided by Mark Harris and Roy Marquess Jr., vocalists, and Martha Fortner, pianist.
