The Trigg County Board of Education, at a reception before its evening meeting Thursday, recognized Joy Champion, Dean Duncan, Mary Grubbs and Charlene Sheehan, four of its employees that are retiring.

Trigg County School Superintendent Tim McGinnis said the school district was proud to honor all four of them, although Sheehan couldn’t be at the reception due to family commitments. She will be recognized at the next school board meeting.

McGinnis said all four of them have contributed greatly to the success of the district’s program.

Afterward, the school board unanimously approved a bid by Taylor Publishing for the Trigg County Middle and High Schools’ yearbook and the Trigg County Primary and Intermediate Schools’ Memory Book for 2009/2010 with an option to renew for two years.

The school board also approved a bid for R.J. Roberts for student insurance. Scholastic Insurance also put out a bid, as McGinnis said Roberts’s proposal was better and provided maximum coverage for “100 percent of the services,” even though Roberts bid was higher, at $25,930 for FY 2010.

The board also approved coverage that extends the KHSAA catastrophic coverage from 10 years to life. The extra cost is $1.45 per athlete.

Board members voted to approve a bid to Kentucky School Board Insurance Trust for workers compensation over Trigg County Insurance. McGinnis recommended awarding the contract to KSBIT at $115,166.

In other actions, board members voted to declare some textbooks as surplus property and also transferred ownership of the old visitors bleachers for Perdue Field to the Trigg County Fiscal Court, pending a signed agreement related to liability.

Board members also voted to accept bids at 10 p.m. on July 17 at the school central office for classified employee physicals and for fuel.

The next school board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, at the Trigg County School central office.
