The two schools will split the grant money evenly. Primary Principal Ann Taylor and Intermediate Principal Brian Futrell said they planned on using the money mostly on “manipulatives,” or hands-on materials that students can use with math exercises. Some of that material can be used by parents to work with their children at home, Taylor said. She said they also hoped to start a few more similar programs soon.
When applying for the grant, Taylor said the schools stressed that the grant money would be used as a component of their Title 1 programs encouraging community and parent involvement.
