Your boys had their first test against Lyon County. In the two previous meetings, your Midcats defeated the Lyons 54 – 7 and 37 – 16, respectfully. The same old song was played on Friday with your boys winning 53 – 19. The top scorers of the game were Cole Gardner with 19 points, KeShawn Davis with 16 points and Luke McKenzie with six points. With the win, your Midcats earned the right to play Crittenden County for the 5th District championship.
On Saturday, your young men contested Crittenden for the district title. In the last couple of meetings, your Midcats defeated the Rockets 36 – 13 and 45 – 21, respectfully. Your Midcats showed a lot of heart and determination, especially in the second half, to complete their perfect season with a 42 – 23 win and claiming the 5th District Middle School Boys Basketball crown! The top scorers of the game were Luke McKenzie with 12 points, Cole Gardner with nine points, and Clark Adams and KeShawn Davis with seven points each.
Coach Michael Stinnett said, ‘I am very proud of you guys. We sure do have a great group of kids’. I agree. As a matter of fact, I am proudest at the fact that EVERYONE on the 7th Grade team was eligible to play in EVERY game. Not one member of the team had to miss a game due to unacceptable behavior or sub par grades. Now ‘that’ is impressive.
Some other impressive items concerning our 7th Grade boys team is that we were 8 – 0 in district play, 13 – 0 overall, we scored a total of 608 points with our opponents totaling 245, the average scores of our games were Trigg – 47 and Opponent – 19, making our average winning margin 28 points. I think we can safely say that we had a pretty good year!
Our 7th Grade boy’s basketball team and our coaching staff would like to thank everyone who made this year possible. We would like to thank Mr. Mangels and the TCMS administration for keeping our boys in line, to our terrific teacher who made sure that our boys completed all class work and homework assignments, to Rodney Davis for overseeing our basketball program and making sure that everything (especially the district tournament) went smoothly, to our parents for all of your support and to our 3 Point Club for nourishing our boys and helping to provide us with the resources that helped us have a great season. We would also like to thank our managers, bus drivers, the high school’s Beta Club and everyone else who helped with our season. Wait a minute, I forgot, our season isn’t over yet.
Next month, TCMS will be hosting a basketball tournament, then, in February; our 7th and 8th Grade boys teams have been invited to go to the Kentucky State Middle School Basketball Tournament. We will keep you posted of times and dates. GO MIDCATS!!!
