According to Clark, a man identifying himself as “Deputy Thompson” called a Trigg County citizen soliciting donations to purchase new protective ballistic vests for the Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s department employs no deputy or other worker by that name.
“We absolutely do not solicit funds in this way, or participate in any phone solicitation of any kind,” said Clark.
Clark said that he was alerted by a resident familiar with the personnel of his agency about the fraud. He said that the resident used a caller-ID system, but the name and number were marked as private.
“It’s clearly a scam,” said Clark. “We have not contacted any other agencies yet, but the first thing I will do is email the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association to see if anyone else has fallen for it. The man who told me about this did not give him any money. Hopefully, nobody else has fallen for this, either.”
If anyone has been contacted by a solicitor claiming to be from the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office, notify Sheriff Clark at 522-6014.
