Warm months have never been slow in Cadiz, beginning with the 400 Mile Yard Sale in June and finishing with the October Ham Festival. Now another event is scheduled for August Evenings, the “First Annual Sizzlin’ Summer Sidewalk Sale.”

The Sidewalk Sale is the brainchild of the Cadiz Downtown Merchants’ Association, planned for August 3, 4 and 5.

“We decided to have this event for all the businesses on Main Street and downtown. We’re going to stay open late and have sales out on the sidewalk. We’re going to invite civic groups to participate as well with bake sales, snow cones, selling lemonade or anything else,” said association member Karla White of Cherokee Antiques.

White added, “The 400-Mile Yard Sale has been successful and has grown every year, but we really want this to be for local folks to meet and get together. A lot of items will be on sale outside, and people can come in for cool air and more super sales.”

Association Member Portia Ezell of Eldora’s Books also plans to participate in the town-wide sidewalk sale. “Back in the ‘olden days’ in Cadiz, the town was packed full. The movie theatre drew kids in, men would swap knives, and women would come to ‘trade,’ which is what they called shopping. They would block off Monroe Street for dances. That’s what we thought about planning this. I’d wear out a pair of shoes in one night.”
