For the next couple of months, drivers and pedestrians can expect to face road blocks at Marion Street as the Cadiz Public Works Department works to finish the third phase of its Streetscape project.

The $175,000 funding the project came from discretionary funds through the Governor’s Office for Local Development, Public Works Director Kerry Fowler said. The department started tearing chunks of the sidewalk outside the police department on Monday morning. Fowler said he had work with Atmos Energy and Bell South to make sure he and the other workers didn’t cut any gas lines or phone cables. By the time the project is finished about two months from now, the department will have put in new curbs, gutters and sidewalks down Marion Street and part of Jefferson Street, Fowler said. He said the Jefferson Street work will extend from the corner of Jefferson and Marion to the parking lot of the Renaissance Convention Center.
