Chairman John Rufli discussed a proposal from Jonsson Phone Directories to feature a color ad for the commission for $800. He said that the Economic Development Commission, City of Cadiz and Trigg County Fiscal Court all agreed to feature an advertisement.
“I support them because this is a local effort,” said Commissioner Greg Batts. “What would this mean for us tourism-wise? Where does this get distributed?”
Rufli said that he had not spoken to the ad salesman, and did not know if the directory would be given to local residents only or appear in area lodging facilities. “If this would be in every room and they could demonstrate if it leaves the county, it may be worthwhile.”
“I think that for $800, we could put something together,” said Batts
Commissioner Karla White said that all hotel rooms needed tourism information.
Stevens suggested a list of restaurants and attractions within the area to be provided to hotel operators and placed in rooms.
“I think the directory could be a benefit, but we need a little more information,” said Rufli. “We haven’t got enough people to vote and we still have some questions. If they put it in hotels, will there be enough for every room plus 10-15 percent for replacements? It would be good if visitors took the book home to share with friends and family.”
Stevens touted the annual Information Guide prepared by The Cadiz Record as a good source of information for visitors, while Batts said a county map was handy for guests.
