A Wisconsin man was arrested Wednesday morning after he was reportedly caught driving a stolen vehicle on Ky. 139.

Joshua K. Martin, 32, of Beloit, Wis., was arrested at 7:47 a.m. last Wednesday on Line Street and charged with receiving stolen property over $10,000, with more charges pending, according to a press release by Major Duncan Wiggins of the Cadiz Police Department.

There was a complaint of a reckless driver on Ky. 139 near the south city limits last Tuesday at about 9:20 a.m., and the vehicle tag given to the police matched that of a vehicle that was reported to be stolen out of Beloit, Wis., Wiggins wrote.

CPD Officer Chad Grace tried to stop the vehicle on Jefferson Street a few minutes later, and Martin stopped but then took off when Grace approached the vehicle, said Wiggins, who added that Martin drove six blocks before turning onto a dead end dirt road near the Cadiz Sewer Plant on Franklin Street, after which he fled the scene.

Although CPD officers, with the assistance of a Christian County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, searched for Martin for several hours, he wasn’t found that night, Wiggins said. He went on to say that he saw a person matching Martin’s description walking on Main Street near Humphries Drive at about 7:39 a.m. last Wednesday.

Wiggins wrote that when he tried to stop him, Martin started running away, and shortly thereafter he was found and apprehended about a one-fourth of a mile away on Line Street by CPD Officer Mathew Dolezal.

No one was injured, and Martin was taken to the Christian Count Jail, Wiggins said. The CPD received assistance from the Trigg County Sheriff’s Department, the Cadiz Fire Department and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office.
