If you want to make sure your child has a blast catching fish and getting prizes this Saturday, make sure to register before the event.

Cadiz Renaissance on Main Director Cindy Sholar said she wanted to encourage parents to register their children ahead of time so that she could make sure that there would be enough T-shirts, goody bags and food for them.

“We would like to have them registered ahead of time,” Sholar said. “We keep growing every year. Last year we grew by more than 30 kids. That was a pretty big jump.”

Sholar said that it wasn’t so long ago that the organizers were planning for a crowd of 250, but the number jumps unpredictably every year. Last year was the first year there were more than 300 participants, so she said they would be planning for a few more than that this time.

The event is sponsored by PACS-RSVP, the City of Cadiz, the Little River Committee, the Pennyrile Resource Conservation & Development, as well as local businesses, the first weekend of every June. It will begin at 9 a.m. on June 7 and will last until noon. Several days before, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife stocks the park pond with fish of all sizes. Some of them have tags that can be redeemed for cash prizes. After catching each fish, the children can go to the nearest volunteer-manned station to have the fish weighed and measured. Fishing poles are provided, and prizes are given in each age group for the smallest and largest fish, as well the most fish caught. The event is for kids aged three to 15. There is a one-dollar registration fee.
