Trigg County and the surrounding areas have plenty of options if you’re looking for something fun to do on the Fourth of July.

The big event this weekend is the set of July 5 concerts at the Trigg County Recreation Complex by J.D. Crowe and the New South. There will two shows; one is at 2:30 p.m. and the other will be at 5:30. The Ridge Runners and the Josh Williams Band will open the show, and tickets are $15. There will be 400 tickets available for each show.

On Friday, the complex will be the site of the second Fourth of July Tractor Pull. The hook fee is $15 per tractor. For more information on any Recreation Complex activities, visit

Lake Barkley State Resort Park will host its usual Independence Day activities on Friday, including its big fireworks show at about 9 p.m. Children’s games will start at the beach at 4 p.m., and food will be provided by Love Shack BBQ of Murray. The music starts at 4:30 p.m. and will feature Cadiz band the Harper Brothers, Princeton’s Alonzo Pennington Band and Alonzo’s thumb-picking father, Eddie Pennington.

Land Between the Lakes is offering several Independence Day programs. Starting at 1 p.m. at the Homeplace, visitors can celebrate the Fourth of July the way they would have in the 1850s. A 30-star flag will be raised and Kentucky Humanities Speaker George McGee will portray Henry Clay and will give a speech. There will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence at 3:45 p.m. Throughout the afternoon, visitors can play historical games and enjoy live entertainment.
