The James Thomas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is currently holding an Essay Contest for students in third grade through 12th grade.

The contest is known as “The Special Veteran.” Students are encouraged to write about any relative who has served in the military and why that person inspired them and is special. The deadline is Nov. 20, and Chapter President Virginia Alexander said the winners would be recognized at their annual Christmas breakfast at 9 a.m. on Dec. 1. A winner will be announced from the Intermediate, Middle and High schools, and the breakfast will be held at the Renaissance Center downtown.
