I knew that Heath had taken Caldwell County, the number 1 seed, out of the playoffs by just grinding the ball down the field a few yards a run, but I thought Trigg would handle them fairly easily (and there is your first clue, Sherlock, about my football prognostication). Tonight Heath slowly worked the ball downfield and across the goal line with only 4 minutes left in the first quarter. Wait a minute, that sounds familiar. I then remembered that they scored first in our first meeting. Nope, we ran the kickoff back for a touchdown I was told. Now I’m thinking about all the people I had told of my 42-21 Trigg wins big prediction.
John Reinick helped our effort with a field goal early in the 2nd quarter, 3-7. Heath then answered that with another T.D. (missing the extra point didn’t make me feel much better). 3-13. Yep, this Chad Wright (Heath’s star running back) was for real. So was my heartburn.
At the half I had a couple of folks ask if I wanted to adjust my prediction. Not some of my more gentler readers I might add. I had a moment with our athletic director who was a little green in the gills, too. Seems he too was optimistic at the outcome, having ordered (and received) many “Trigg 2007 District Champ” t-shirts.
