PRINCETON – In two December wins over Caldwell County, Trigg County didn’t have a defensive answer for Tron Gray but still pulled out victories. Friday, Gray lit up the scoreboard again and this time helped the Tigers put one in the win column over the Wildcats.

Gray netted 31 in Caldwell’s 78-66 win Friday at Princeton’s historic Butler Gym. Gray scored 33 and 25 in the other two Trigg/Caldwell tilts from this season.

The teams played neck-and-neck in the first quarter, with Trigg pulling out to a five-point lead before Caldwell had an offensive explosion. The Tigers went on a 26-6 run and held the Wildcats to four points in the second quarter, giving Caldwell a 36-18 halftime advantage.

Trigg fought back, and a Mitch Rogers three-pointer capped a stretch that cut the gap to 44-33, but Caldwell scored the next nine points to take the largest lead of the night.

The ‘Cats had another impressive offensive run in the fourth quarter, capped by another Rogers three-pointer that left Trigg behind 69-63 with 1:50 left. However, Caldwell recovered to score nine of the final 12 points of the night.

Rogers and Zeke Wright each scored 15 points to lead Trigg, and Jaylan Mount added 13.

In a game rescheduled from Feb. 9 due to weather, five Wildcats scored in double figures Saturday in a 90-40 win at Dawson Springs.

Jalik Alexander led the way with 22, followed by Wright with 15, Cole Gardner with 14, Mount with 12 and Kyler Hendricks with 10.

Trigg hosted Todd County Central on Tuesday (results unavailable at press time). Senior Night festivities were originally scheduled to be held prior to the game but were moved to Friday, when the ‘Cats host Hopkinsville in the regular season finale.

Trigg plays in the semifinal round of the 5th District Tournament at 7:30 p.m. Monday against Livingston Central (see page B3 for complete tournament information).
