Paul McCartney was singing about a trip from Cadiz to Hickman when he crooned “the long and winding road…”. It’s was actually only a little over a hundred miles of deer, raccoons and possums but seemed much farther.

Our TomTom had been there many times before so we had no problems and our prize winning daughter, Annie, was home from U.K. making it an enjoyable little trip. The “mane” topic of conversation was my flowing luxurious blonde hair.

Many of the less astute (although studies have shown my keenly judicious readers are very astute indeed) may see silver or- even more crudely put - gray, but I see only blonde in my mirror.

The question was brought up as to why on earth I didn’t get a haircut. My wife said my hair looked like straw and was completely out of control (nothing “gifted and talented” in that observation). The prize winner said it looked ridiculous and rather embarrassing.

Several weeks ago famed barber, Jerry Stroud, commented I looked like Hulk Hogan on crack. A few of our more reserved citizenry have somberly asked me “whaddup with the do?”

Here you go. It started as a bet with one Ralph Thomas although I don’t think we set any official stakes. Ralph buckled under the social pressure and sat in the chair but I persevere on to new and higher plateaus of tonsorial delights. My therapist says we need to bump up our sessions to five times a week.

One of my favorite bands, The Cars, was talking about the Trigg County Wildcat football team when they sang “let the good times roll”.

Yes, happy days are here again. The Trigg fans came in droves with our side outnumbering the home team three to one!
