During its meeting last Tuesday board members reviewed its 2008 budget.
Member Greg Batts inquired about several amounts under the item for “advertising”, asking exactly what and where the advertisements are being placed.
Tourism Director Bill Stevens told board members “I’ve had a short time to evaluate the budget making process. We haven’t got a clear picture on what we are spending in some categories. Some expenses should be in other categories. We were required to set it up this way by an auditor. If true advertising is $22,000 then we don’t need to budget advertising at $35,000.”
“If I tried to do this in the real world, I would not be allowed to do it,” said Batts. “I believe in doing it the right way.”
Stevens asked the commission to form a committee to review expenditures and needs to better plan the budget. Members John Bryant, Batts and Lisa Rogers agreed to join the committee.
Stevens said that he had spoken to Zeitgeist Marketing Consultants and to see about a consultation to develop a marketing plan for Trigg County as a destination. Stevens said that the firm would charge $7,500 for a full day of consultation and $5,000 for a half day. He added that Dan Bozarth of the Pennyrile Area Development District had “heard good things” about the firm.
