Trigg Co. Students Part of Mock Elections

Students in elementary, middle and high schools across Kentucky participated in mock elections last week. Students in the Trigg County school system also participated, but waited until Monday, Nov. 3.

Approximatly 480 students at the Trigg County High School voted, and chose John McCain over Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential race by a vote of 247 – 219. Of the students that gave write-in votes, 6 voted for Ralph Nader, 2 voted for Donna Kranz, 2 voted for Tulsa Lewis, 2 voted for Bill Clinton, 1 voted for John Edwards and 1 voted for Cynthia McKinney, according to Carmen Finley, RSVP coordinator of Trigg County.

Additionally, 449 students at the high school voted that it was important to vote, while 22 voted that it wasn’t, Finley said.

At the Trigg County Intermediate School, which deals with grades 3 – 5, students also went for John McCain over Barack Obama, by a vote of 267 – 171. Approximately 13 students voted for the various third party candidates, said Brian Futrell, principal of the school.

Numbers weren’t available for Trigg County Middle School at press time.
