Big Brothers Big Sisters is the leading National Organization in One to One Mentoring.
Locally, Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Kentucky serves Christian, Calloway and Trigg Counties and has a total of over 70 children on their waiting lists. Children between the ages of 5-13 participate in the School Based and Community Based Programs.
These children have demonstrated a need for an adult role model in the form of a mentor. National Statistics show that a child who is mentored is 46% less likely to start using drugs, 52% less likely to skip school and the positive relationship between youth and their Big Brother or Big Sister has a direct, measurable, and lasting impact on their life!
Matching comes together through three essential programs: Community Based Mentoring, School Based Mentoring, and Site-Based Mentoring. It’s all about providing a positive adult role model to enhance the lives of children through hope, support, skills, encouragement and building of long lasting relationships to empower the children for lasting changes in their lives.
In sharing this experience and being a friend one-hour a week or four hours a month, volunteers make a difference.
In Cadiz alone, we have 18 children on our waiting list, of those children there are 2 females and 16 males. If you would like to mentor a child please think about this opportunity. It may be the perfect opportunity for you.
