Trigg County restaurants pass inspections

Information for the restaurant reports comes from the Trigg County Health Department or the Pennyrile District Health Department. A minimum score of 85 with no critical violations is considered passing.

Restaurants can increase their scores by correcting critical violations while the inspector is present. Inspectors will conduct a follow-up inspection if the score is less than 85 or if there is a critical violation.

Betty’s Kitchen - 9133 South Road

Score: 99 percent

The report mentioned that the floor is in poor repair, although it also noted that workers were working on the floor at inspection time. The report was published on March 3.

Cadiz Family Restaurant – 324 Main St.

Score: 100 percent

The report, dated Feb. 23, noted that all of the violations in the previous report on this restaurant have been corrected. This was a follow-up report, as there had been an inspection a couple of weeks before.

China Buffet – 1863 Main St.

Score: 96 percent

The report, dated June 21, mentioned that food products are not properly labeled, food is stored uncovered in the freezer and refrigerator units and mentioned the separation of the living area and the kitchen area, but said the restaurant as a whole looks much better, and asked that they “keep up the good work!” This was a follow-up report, as there had been an inspection from the previous month.

Cracker Barrel – 74 Hospitality Lane

Score; 96 percent

The report, dated May 17, mentioned that food is uncovered in the refrigeration units, that clean and unclean utensils are stored together and that equipment surfaces and floors lack regular cleaning,

Cheryl’s Food Service – Wrangler’s Camp

Score: 100 percent

The report, dated April 9, mentioned that there aren’t any thermometers in the refrigerator or freezer units and noted the lack of hair restraints, but otherwise said it looked great.

Canton One Stop – 1196 Canton Road

Score: 100 percent

The report, dated March 4, stated that food is uncovered in the refrigerator units, that coffee cups are stored on paper towels and that wiping cloths are used for spills.

Granny’s Kountry Kitchen – 4307 Canton Road

Score: 96 percent

The report, dated Feb. 17, noted that wiping cloths aren’t being used properly, that single service items like coffee filters and sugar are stored under liquids and that some equipment lacks regular cleaning.

The Fishing Hole – 9 Goose Hollow Road

Score: 97 percent

The report, dated May 13, said that food is uncovered in the upright unit and that the light shield in the upright unit, but otherwise stated that the place is very clean.

Ferrell’s Snappy Service – Main Street

Score – 93 percent

The report, dated Feb. 2, mentioned that food is stored uncovered in the unit by the grill, and that meat stored above other food items could contaminate them. It also said that the ceiling is in poor repair, that light shields are missing, lights in the bathrooms are in poor repair, that wiping cloths are used to store clean dishes on and that the ice scoop is stored with the food.

El Bracero Mexican Restaurant – 80 Main St.

Score: 94 percent

The report, dated April 7, stated that food isn’t properly labeled or covered in the refrigerator units and that food contact surfaces on the shelves “lack easy cleanable surfaces.” It did however stated that the restaurant is very organized.

Hot Diggity Dog – 13 Marion St.

Score: 95 percent

The report, dated March 31, stated that food isn’t properly labeled, that coffee filters are stored in an area where they can be contaminated, that the ceiling in the storage area is in poor repair and that the bathroom in the storage area doesn’t have a self-closing door or a covered trash can.

Hilltop Kash Market – 4682 Canton Road

Score: 97 percent

The report, dated April 9, stated that food containers aren’t properly labeled, that food is stored uncovered in the refrigerator units, that a wiping cloth is used as a hand towel, that the saw blades, can opener, other equipment, walls and floor aren’t cleaned regularly and that the light shield is missing. It also noted, however, that many other violations were corrected. This was a follow-up inspection, as there had been an inspection the month before.

Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell – 57 Hospitality Lane

Score: 90 percent

The report, dated Jan. 9, stated that wiping towels are used for wiping spills and leaks, that much of the equipment as well as the floors, walls, ceiling and food contact areas aren’t cleaned regularly, that the women’s restroom doesn’t have a light shield and that the dumpster in the back is in poor repair and doesn’t have a lid.

Jolly’s Dairy Bar and Grill – State Park Road

Score: 96 percent

The report, dated May 25, stated that thermometers are missing, that the cutting board is in poor repair and that light shields are missing.

Lake Barkley State Resort Park Dining Area

Score: 99 percent

The report, dated May 19, stated that the walls need to be cleaned more regularly. However, it is a massive improvement over previous months, as it has received scores as low as 75 percent, and it is noted that that the staff has worked hard to improve the cleanliness of the dining area.

Main St. Pizza – 31 Commerce St.

Score: 97 percent

The report, dated Feb. 2, stated that single service items like pizza boxes are stored on the floor, that light shields are missing in the food preparation area and women’s restroom and that there aren’t any hair restraints.

McDonald’s – 5878 Hopkinsville Road

Score: 97 percent

The report, dated 97 percent, noted the lack of hair restraints and stated that the drink, juice and tea machines aren’t cleaned regularly, but said that otherwise the restaurant is very clean.

Wallonia Café – 16 Blackhawk Road

Score: 97 percent

The report, dated May 10, stated that the floors and wall aren’t cleaned regularly and that wiping cloths are used to catch spills, but otherwise said the restaurant looks better.

Wendy’s – 100 Broadbent Road

Score: 97 percent

The report, dated Jan. 9, stated that the frosty and drink machines aren’t cleaned regularly and that the light in the walk-in freezer is in poor repair.

Uptown Steakhouse – 8 Marion St.

Score: 96 percent

The report, dated Feb. 17, stated that food is stored on the floor and in the refrigerator in way that contamination could happen, and added that food isn’t properly labeled and that there aren’t any thermometers in any of the refrigeration or freezer units.

Subway – P.O. Box 7825

Score: 98 percent

The report, dated April 26, stated that coffee filters and other single service items are stored where they could be contaminated and that utensil aren’t being inverted.

Subway – 1083 Canton Road

Score: 99 percent

The report, dated Jan. 7, stated that the microwave and the drink machines aren’t cleaned regularly, and neither are the floors in the restrooms, but it added that overall, the restaurant looks great.

Sonic Drive-In – 1628 Main St.

Score: 92 percent

The report, dated March 9, stated that food is being stored uncovered in the refrigerator and freezer units, that wiping cloths are used to catch spills, that the women’s restroom doesn’t have a self-closing door, that the drink and slush machines aren’t cleaned regularly, that that there aren’t any hair restraints.

Patty Sue’s Family Restaurant – 1842 Canton Road

Score: 89 percent

The report, dated Feb. 5, stated that food is uncovered in the freezer, that utensils are stored in soiled drawers and shelves, that the walls, ceilings and storage tables aren’t cleaned regularly, and that the sewage/septic system is in poor repair, although repairs were scheduled at the time of the repair.

Porky’s Pit – Cadiz

Score: 100 percent

The report, dated April 9, mentioned no violations.

Senior Citizen Center – 39 Jefferson St.

Score: 100 percent

The report, dated Jan. 7, mentioned no violations.

The Landing – Prizer Point Road

Score: 95 percent

The report, dated May 26, stated that there aren’t any thermometers in the refrigerator units and that the food and non-food services, as well as the floors and hood over the grill and stove aren’t cleaned regularly. The report added that the storage area “lacks in repair.”

Score: 99 percent

The report, dated Jan. 7, mentioned that the floors lack cleaning.

Billy Moose – 2439 Cerulean Road

Score: 99 percent

The report, dated April 7 of this year, mentioned the storage of clean utensils on the wall between counter tops.
