Trigg Hospital’s debt totaled nearly $507,000

As of the end of the last fiscal year, Trigg County Hospital was in the hole to the tune of approximately $507,000, TCH Chief Financial Officer Bethany Goss said at the hospital board last week, held at the hospital’s conference room.

The audit, performed by Quorum Health Resources, stated that the hospital also had an increase in charity care and bad debt of about $573,000 from last fiscal year, a 58 percent increase, Goss said, although she went on to state that the hospital received a “clean” audit.

“They gave us a clean, unqualified opinion, which is the best one that you can get,” Goss said. “However, they had some internal control issues, which we usually have due to the size of our facility. And they said the only way to correct this is to hire more staff.”

Goss also said that they expect to receive more than $200,000 in Disproportionate Share Hospital program money from the state later this month.

Cadiz City Council Member Susan Bryant asked about potential hospital expansions of the its surgical and rehabilitation portions, and said she and her constituents wanted to know how such expansions would affect traffic on Hospital Road.

Hospital board members stated such expansions have only been discussed, and no expansion plans have yet been approved.

Trigg County Magistrate Kevin Terrell was also present, as were some hospital staff.
