For the second time in as many years, the Trigg County Hospital (TCH) is preparing to introduce magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to the hospital. But this year things are a bit different–it’s on wheels.

In 2004, TCH brought a used MRI machine into the hospital for the first time on a full-time basis. It was equipped with state-of-the-art software that was able to send images to Murray-Calloway County Hospital via a digital connection.

However, as the moons passed, the contract with Murray-Calloway expired and left Trigg County without the necessary equipment to use the machine properly.

Terry Powers, former administrator at the hospital, made the move before his departure and inception of Quorum Health Services to bring a mobile MRI unit to the hospital.

And now the move is finally taking a tangible form at the hospital.

Crews have begun building a concrete pad where the vehicle housing the MRI unit will sit. Its first day of operation is set for August 16, according to Interim Administrator Lisa Coleman.

But for the most part, Coleman said, it is simply “another tool” for the physicians and nurses at the hospital to help the people of Trigg County.
