The Lady Cats’ opening day lineup featured Dakota Littlejohn on the mound with Kalesha Williams as the catcher; Sam Furr took first Base while Hannah Oliver played second. The infield was rounded out by Kiesha Stewart at playing third base and Sierra Bush playing short stop. The Lady Cat outfield consisted of Cheniqua Smith in Left, Danni Romero patrolling centerfield, and Rachel Gaskey in right.
The Lady Cats took the field first. “Cody” Littlejohn would face off against friends on Hopkinsville that she and battery mate Kalesha Williams played with in the summer at Hopkinsville. Littlejohn’s first inning was a bumpy one as she tried to shake-off the effects of a flu bug that nearly kept her out of school on Monday. The Hoptown Tigers managed to score four runs in the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead. The Lady Cats came to bat in the bottom half of the inning facing Hoptown’s best pitcher. Littlejohn, Bush and Williams made contact with the ball, but still retired in order for the home half of the first inning.
Littlejohn settled in the top of the second inning, walking one while striking out one and the infield picked up the other two outs. In the bottom of the second, Rachel Gaskey hit a hard grounder to second for the inning’s first out. Lady Cats first baseman Sam Furr would go down swing with some good cuts. Hannah Oliver reached base on an infield error, and then stole second base before Danni Romero put a hard shot back to the pitcher to end the inning.
