Trigg competes in KTCCCA Meet of Champions in Lexington

Several Trigg County runners competed Saturday at the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association’s Meet of Champions at Lexington’s Masterson Station Park.

The event serves as a high school meet as well as state championship meets for middle schools and sixth grade and under.

Trigg’s top finish of the day was turned in by Lynease Byers, who finished ninth out of 93 runners in the girls high school 5k race. Byers’ time was 22 minutes, 5.42 seconds.

The high school boys team was the only one to field enough runners for a team score. The Wildcats finished 14th out of 17 teams and were led by Romaine Cunningham, who finished in 12th place (18:10.66). Also running for Trigg were Matt Savage (83rd, 20:56.88), Garrett Brown (89th 21:08.32), Jakelze Martin (96th, 21:25.00) and Jake Mitchell (146th, 25:23.66). There were 157 runners in this race.

In the girls middle school 4k race, Alex Olin led Trigg in 152nd place (19:09.89). Other Trigg runners were Jessica Brashears (319th, 23:02.14) and Hannah Barnett (344th (24:23.30). There were 364 entrants in this race.

Debo Mayes finished 175th out of 431 racers to lead Trigg runners in the boys middle school race (17:01.32). Brien Dossett (214th, 17:24.24) and J.B. Hendricks (251st, 17:50.51) also ran for the Midcats.

In the boys sixth-and-under 3k, Ethan Dossett led Trigg by finishing 17th out of 432 runners (12:03.53). Other Trigg runners were Reagan Hyde (156th, 13:51.62) and Sebastian Skinner (273rd, 14:55.23).

Running for Trigg in the girls sixth-and-under race, which had 418 runners, were Anna Morgan (187th, 15:27.82), Kayla Bingham (212nd, 15:39.39), Jordan Woodall (251st, 16:05.27) and Emily Andreina (415th, 21:17.97).

Rimington Gavlik ran in the boys sixth-and-under open 3k and finished 160th (21:56.20) out of 167 runners.

Trigg will compete in the regional championship race Saturday at Logan County. Those who qualify will advance to the state championship Nov. 14 at the Lexington Horse Park.
