Trigg falls to Lyon in double overtime

CADIZ – The latest meeting between these Lyons and Wildcats was much more than than a catfight. Lyon County completed a 5th District boys’ basketball sweep of longtime rival Trigg County Friday night. But it didn’t come without much resistance. The Lyons, playing on the road in Trigg County’s home gym, needed two overtimes to defeat the Wildcats in the latest district meeting between the rivals. Lyon County doubled up Trigg County 8-4 in a second overtime, defeating the host Wildcats 79-74.

The 5th District Tournament already promises to be very interesting.

Lyon County, prevailed thanks in part to the play of two talented seniors. Bigman Ramsey Walker led Lyon County with a double-double of 31 points and 20 rebounds. Mitchell Peeler scored 21 points for the Lyons.

The two teams battled back and forth in a game that many deemed as an instant classic. Lyon County led at the end of each of the first two quarters, exiting the opening period out in front 13-9. The Lyons took a hard-fought 26-25 lead into halftime.

The two teams swapped leads on various occasions in the second half. Trigg County led 54-50 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Making up for its performance in the third period, Lyon County outscored Trigg County 21-17 in the fourth quarter to send the game into an extra session. When regulation ended, Lyon County and Trigg County were tied 61-61.

Neither team would budge in the first overtime as the initial extra session ended in a 71-71 deadlock.
