Trigg notched a big 5th District win last Tuesday, topping Lyon County 17-2. The ‘Cats then lost 9-5 to district foe Crittenden County on Friday before topping Hopkins County Central 9-4 on Saturday and losing 10-0 Monday at University Heights.
Trigg recorded 12 hits and held the Lyons to five last Tuesday. R.J. Sholar led the way for the ‘Cats with a grand slam and six total runs batted in. Zack Bridges added a pair of singles and three RBIs, and Hunter Smillie, Jared Stallons and Andre Wright each had a pair of hits. Bridges was also the winning pitcher, striking out five batters in four innings.
Against the Rockets, Trigg fell victim to an early offensive outburst and couldn’t recover. Smillie had a single and three RBIs to lead Trigg. Sholar, who had four singles, was the losing pitcher, striking out seven in six innings of work.
The ‘Cats returned to their winning ways Saturday. Hunter Allen pitched six strong innings, striking out four Hopkins Central batters. He also had three doubles and two RBIs. David Wease had a double and knocked in three runs, and Stallons had two RBIs and a single. Sholar also added a pair of doubles.
Trigg then lost to UHA in what head coach Jackie Sholar called “the worst game we’ve played since I’ve been coaching.” Trigg was held to two hits in a five-inning, 10-0 loss to the Blazers. Stallons pitched the first two innings and was saddled with the loss.
The ‘Cats were set to host Livingston Central on Tuesday (results unavailable at press time) before another home game Wednesday against Stewart County, Tenn. Trigg then hits the road for the next four games – Friday at Lyon County, Saturday at Russellville, Monday at Fort Campbell and Tuesday at Crittenden County.
Post 68 Golf Scramble:
Jackie Sholar, who will be one of the coaches for the American Legion Post 68 baseball team this season, said a golf scramble to benefit the team has been scheduled for 1 p.m. May 2 at Arrowhead Golf Course.
Fees are $100 per team plus green fees. Prizes will be awarded in first and second flight for longest drive and closest to pin on Par 3 holes.
