Several of the best volleyball teams in western Kentucky will converge on Cadiz this weekend for the Second Annual Trigg County Slamfest Volleyball Tournament.

Trigg County (5-8) will be in a pool with Hopkinsville (9-11), Logan County (18-5), and Hopkins Country Central (3-11).

The other pool will feature Calloway County (3-7), Madisonville (14-5), Marshall County (8-2), and defending Slamfest champion Fort Campbell (11-3).

"We wanted to take the tournament up a notch this year, and we have several district champions from last year and favorites to win this year," Lady Wildcat head coach Rick Erickson said.

Teams will play each team in their pool once, with the top two teams to advance to the semi-finals.

Trigg County has played five teams in tournament, beating Calloway County once and Hopkins Central twice. They have also dropped a game to Hopkins Central and lost to Marshall County, Fort Campbell (three times), and Hopkinsville.

"I feel like it’s one of the better volleyball tournaments in this end of the state. We have better caliber teams here this year," Erickson said.

Last year, Trigg County finished fourth in the tournament with wins over Calloway County and Fulton County before losing to Fort Campbell in the semifinals.

The Lady Wildcats will play Hopkinsville at 9 a.m. Saturday followed by a game with Hopkins County Central at 10 a.m.

Trigg will take a short break before playing Logan County at 1 p.m.

All of Trigg’s pool games will be played in Wildcat Gym, while Pool B games will be in the middle school gym.

The semifinals will begin at 2:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., with the championship game scheduled for 4:45 p.m.

All-day admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students, which gets you in both gyms. There will also be concessions and T-shirts for sale, Erickson said.
