Qualifying deadline to appear on the ballot will be Tuesday, August 14, the Clerk said.
Trigg County Judge/Executive Stan Humphries announced that County Jailer/Transportation Officer Glenn Cunningham would retire from office effective August 1.
Cunningham underwent back surgery in June. He first won election to the Jailer’s office in 2002, after being named as a replacement for the previous jailer by then Judge/Executive Berlin Moore.
Humphries said that he would designate an interim jailer to fill the position until November’s general election.
County Clerk Wanda Thomas said that as a partisan election and after the spring primary, the Republican and Democratic Party Executive Committees might nominate a candidate to appear on the ballot. Third party and independent candidates must secure a place on the ballot with a petition with 100 signatures, and completion of paperwork at her office. She asked third party and independent candidates to seek additional information at her office. The two major parties and other candidates have until August 14 to nominate a candidate or to announce their candidacy.
