The 10-year-old son of Trigg County Middle School Principal James Mangels died Sunday evening after his bicycle hit a pickup truck and trailer in the 2300 block of Riley Hollow Road.

Keegan Mangels of Cadiz was riding his bicycle westbound when he lost control of the bicycle at about 5:40 p.m. and accidentally swerved into the eastbound lane, hitting a trailer that was hauled by a pickup truck driven by Michael Oakley, 59, also of Cadiz, according to a report from Trooper Richard Wright of the Kentucky State Police.

Trigg County Coroner John Mark Vinson pronounced Mangels dead at the scene, Wright said.

Wright was assisted at the scene by KSP Sergeant Joey Adams, KSP Trooper Tim Sales, the Trigg County Sheriff’s Department, the Cadiz Police Department, the Trigg County Ambulance Service and the Trigg County Coroner’s Office.
