A collision between two vehicles on the eastbound side of Interstate 24 near mile marker 62 shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, left a Millington, Tenn., woman and an Oak Grove man dead, said the Kentucky State Police. A Helena, Ga., man, and the Millington woman’s two young children were also injured and sent to hospitals.

According to a report by Trooper Jon Pagan of the Kentucky State Police, Toni Pelcha, 24, of Millington, was traveling westbound on the interstate in her Mazda when she started veering towards the median for what are currently unknown reasons.

In the car with her were Robert Mullins Jr., 30, of Oak Grove, and Lance and Landen Pelcha, both 11 months old and both also of Millington, the report stated. Mullins wasn’t the father of the twins, said Trooper and KSP Spokesman Dean Patterson.

After crossing the median and driving into the eastbound lane, Pelcha’s four-door Mazda struck a Ford F-350 that was driven by William McKinnon, 46, of Helena, and both vehicles stopped in the eastbound shoulder, said Pagan’s report.

Trigg County Coroner John Mark Vinson pronounced Pelcha and Mullins dead at the scene, the report said. Lance and Landon Pelcha were flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

McKinnon was taken to Trigg County Hospital in Cadiz according to TCH officials, although the report erroneously stated called the hospital Jennie Stuart Medical Center, which is in Hopkinsville. McKinnon was treated and released, TCH officials also said.
