A Princeton resident and an Alpharetta, Ga., resident were both pronounced dead after a collision involving both their vehicles happened at about 6:30 p.m on Thursday, March 19, in Christian County near the 75 mile marker of Interstate 24, five miles from the Trigg County border, according to a report by of the Trooper Luis Palmer of the Kentucky State Police.

Trisha Apte, 22, of Alpharetta, was traveling eastbound on I-24 in a Honda Civic, and Andrew F. Young, 24, of Princeton, was traveling westbound, but for reasons still unknown, Apte’s vehicle ran off into the sunken grass median and into westbound lanes of traffic, hitting Young’s vehicle on the driver’s side, Palmer wrote.

The Christian County Coroner pronounced Young dead at the scene, while Apte was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where she was later pronounced dead at about 10:30, said Palmer.

Neither Apte nor Young had passengers, and both were wearing seatbelts, Palmer’s report indicated.

The area of I-24 near mile marker 75 was closed for about two hours due to the collision, according to Keith Todd, a public information official with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Assisting at the scene were Palmer, KSP Sergeant Duane Snyder, KSP Trooper Jacob Wilson, the Christian County Sheriff’s Department, Christian County Emergency Medical Service and Vanderbilt Life-Flight.
