The Trigg County High School volleyball team met their toughest match of the season on August 21 that resulted in their first district loss. Trigg lost to the defending district champion Crittenden County 6-25, 16-25. When Crittenden got off to a fast start and put Trigg in an early hole in the first match, our girls seemed to hang up their laces and play lackadaisically.

“We played with our heads down the majority of the night,” said a frustrated head coach Rick Erickson, “it is hard to beat any team like that, especially the returning district champions.”

When the teams got back on the court for the second match, it seemed as if Trigg was another team. They were able to get the very tough save and make the consistent volleys that would have fallen to floor in the first match. Trigg built a small lead and when Crittenden came back, Trigg kept it close with a competitive fire that had been unseen from them during the game.

Crittenden served the ball with force and consistency but the Cats mid-court was able to make the adjustment and keep the ball in the air.

Kelly Bradshaw had 2 kills and 1 ace. She was the only Wildcat to record both a kill and an ace. Bradshaw also made three spectacular saves during the game to keep the Cats close during the second match. Keisha Stewart added 2 kills while Casey Banister had 3 assists and Molly Thompson had 2 blocks.
