The first Volunteer Day, also known as Coffee, Tea and RSVP, to be held in Trigg County was a success, according to Carmen Finley of Pennyrile Allied Community Services Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (PACS-RSVP), the group that put the event together.

“I’ve been really excited about the turnout,” Finley said. “We’ve got a big crowd. [Different groups] are looking for volunteers or club members and support staff for their agencies.”

Finley said 101 visitors signed in at the fair, which was held at the Cadiz Baptist Church annex from 9 – 11 a.m. last Wednesday.

“We handed out 35 applications, and seven people signed-up at the day of the fair,” Finley said. “Many of the visitors were already in our RSVP program, so many of them signed up as volunteers in other areas that they had not been volunteering in the past.”

Additionally, RSVP received six new agencies into their program: the Cadiz Civitan Club, the Cadiz Lions Club, the Gateway Garden Club, the Land Between the Lakes Association, the Trigg/Lyon Newcomers Club and the Trigg County Historical Society.

Door prizes were handed out, and coffee, tea, water and pastries were available to anyone who attended.

Last year, a similar volunteer fair was held in Muhlenberg County, Finley said. PACS-RSVP covers Trigg, Christian, Muhlenberg and Hopkins Counties.

Finley said the people of Trigg County have provided a large amount of assistance to the group, and because PACS-RSVP had a lot of volunteers to help set up the volunteer fair, the site was set up in a hour.

Other groups looking for volunteers at the fair included the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Helping Hands, the Janice Mason Art Museum, the John L. Street Library, Pennyrile Hospice, Renaissance on Main, Shady Lawn Nursing Home, Trigg County Hospital and Trigg County Schools.
