What started out last Thursday with a district win over Crittenden ended as downward spiral over the weekend with two bad losses and one that just got away in Hopkinsville. Monday’s game with Lyon County at the Trigg County Recreation Complex was washed out. Coach Jackie Sholar hopes to make up the game on Saturday. Trigg County 5, Greenwood 13

The late game Saturday started out slow but ended with Greenwood’s Gator chomping up the Wildcats 13-5. Grenwood got on the scoreboard early and often punching in four runs in the second inning. Jordan P’Pool started the game going three batters into the third inning before giving way to Jamie Guinn on the hill. The Wildcats were led on offense by Will Stagner, a man of many positions in this game, playing first base and right field. Tyler Greenman went 2-3 and took a walk from the Gator pitching staff. The hardest part of this game to take, according to Coach Jackie Sholar was, “the number of men left on base and the errors we made that cost us most of their runs.”

Trigg County 6, Hopkinsville 7

Saturday’s first game at Hopkinsville saw the Wildcats fall to rival Hoptown 7-6. Hunter Smillie pitched a complete game while taking the loss. Smillie struck out three while only walking three Tiger batters. Jordan P’Pool stepped up at the plate in this game, hitting a homerun with Tyler Greenman on base. Will Stagner went 4-4 in the game including three doubles, while playing catcher early and right field late in the game. Jamie Guinn also made a contribution on offense going 2-4 and knocking in a run as well.

Saturday’s doubleheader began with the Wildcats taking a early 2-1 lead after the first inning. By the end of the second inning, the game became a track meet as both teams had four runs apiece. Hoptown took the lead in the fourth going up 6-4 until the Wildcats tied the game in the fourth at six each. Hoptown took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning 7-6 and held on for the win over the Wildcats.

Trigg County 5, UHA 16

University Heights broke out of a season-long hitting slump and erupted for nine first inning runs on their way to a 16-5 win over Trigg County Friday at the Complex. It marked the first time the Wildcats had lost via the 10-run rule this year.
