Trigg County is home to an undefeated boys’ high school basketball team. The Wildcats are 5-0 through their first five games. Trigg County owns wins over Fulton City, Livingston Central, Union County, Caldwell County and Crittenden County. The Wildcats are 2-0 in the 5th District thanks to victories over Livingston Central and Crittenden County.

“We’re excited about the 5-0 start but know we have a lot of tough games ahead,” said Trigg County Coach Mike Wright.

Trigg County opened the season victorious Dec. 2 at home versus Fulton City. The Wildcats have hosted opponents in four of their first five games. Trigg County defeated Fulton City 64-57 in the season-opener.

The Wildcats opened district play 1-0 following a 64-58 win over Livingston Central Dec. 5. Back-to-back non-district wins over Union County and Caldwell County then followed for the Wildcats. Trigg County turned back Crittenden County 76-68 this past Friday night in another home game.

Fans have shown great support for the Trigg County boys’ basketball team thus far in the 2008-09 season.

“Our fans have been great,” Wright commented. “There’s a lot of excitement surrounding the Lyon County game. A lot of our students are excited and have said they’ll be making the trip. We’re 5-0 now. Lyon County is 3-0 and has five starters who have been together in high school for four years as starters. That group has been together since sixth grade or earlier. We’re a couple of small schools with good basketball programs.”

Lyon County has beaten Caldwell County, Dawson Springs and Livingston Central for its three wins. The Lyons defeated Livingston Central 78-60 Friday night for win number three.

Jeff Embrey guides the Lyon County boys’ basketball team.

Senior center Ramsey Walker leads the Lyons. Walker averaged 18 points and eight rebounds per game for the Lyons last season. The Lyon County center has continued a productive pace in the 2008-09 campaign.

Other key players for the Lyons are seniors Mitchell Peeler and Aaron Corley and junior guards Timmy Perdue and Taylor Gray.

Tip-off for the Trigg County-Lyon County boys’ basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
