FORT CAMPBELL – The Trigg County Wildcats had an upset bid turned away Friday night, falling on the road to Class 2A frontrunner Fort Campbell. The homestanding Falcons scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, holding off the visiting Wildcats 28-9.

Fort Campbell had clinched the Class 2A District 2 championship one week prior to entertaining the Wildcats. The Falcons have now won 22 straight games.

Neither team could dent the scoreboard with any points in the opening quarter. Fort Campbell quarterback Antonio Andrews hooked up with receiver Chris Allen on a 21-yard pass with 17 seconds remaining in the first half as the game almost entered halftime in a scoreless tie. Fort Campbell packed a 7-0 lead into the intermission period.

Trigg County kicker Jon Reinick missed a 32-yard field goal attempt with 11:00 remaining in the first half. Reinick, however, made good on a 29-yard field goal attempt at the 7:27 mark of the third quarter.

The Trigg County defensive unit stepped up on various occasions. Wildcat defender Henry Wharton intercepted an Andrews pass with 5:15 remaining in the third quarter.

But the host Falcons had more answers.

Fort Campbell defender Darian Crank, however, picked off a pass from Trigg County signal-caller Donald Bush later in the third quarter.

Andrews rushed for three second half touchdowns.

Bush scored the lone touchdown of the game for the Wildcats on a one-yard run.

Bush played well against highly-touted Fort Campbell. The Trigg County quarterback passed for 192 yards. Trigg County ended the contest with 264 yards of total offense.
