Williams said that Coach Jamie Howell last year sent the names of the top five softball players at the school to Tourney Sport USA, a commercial competitive sports organization, for consideration in their softball tournament. Williams said she was one of two Kentucky players who were chosen to compete in the recent tournament. Her Dec. 28 flight out of Nashville took her first to Chicago, then to Los Angeles and finally Hawaii.
While she was there, Williams visited the Diamond Head volcano and Manoa Falls, which are both on the island of Oahu. She said the falls, which drop about 150 feet, were “awesome,” and that she climbed almost a mile to the top of Diamond Head.
Williams said that Tourney Sport players are divided up into teams based on which positions they play. She said that many of the players are picked randomly and some are recruited. She said that as part of the trip, she had take care of the cost of the flight and tour package. The seven teams all had names that had some connection to Hawaii, and her team was called the Pineapples.
