Dr. Tom Martin officiated the service, and he was buried with military honors provided by the Pennyrile Area Honor Guard at East End Cemetery in Cadiz. Visitation was held at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 2, and from 1 – 2 p.m. on March 3 at Cadiz Christian Church.
Winthrop was born on Dec. 1, 1926 to Winthrop Howell Hopson and Elizabeth Rice Hopson. He was a WWII U.S. Marines veteran, a retired farmer and a member of Canton Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He later joined Cadiz Christian Church, where he served as an Elder. He was former chairman and member of the Trigg Chapter of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association, was a Farm Bureau Director and a former member of the Trigg County Board of Education.
Winthrop was preceded in death his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Celia Hopson of Cadiz, his son and daughter-in-law Howell Hopson and Geneva Parris of Cadiz, his brother and sister W. J. and Mary Nell Hopson of Cadiz and his two grandchildren, Eli Hopson of Washington, D.C., and Shawn Perry of Cadiz.
Winthrop is also survived by two great grandchildren, Belinda Perry of Cadiz and Alexander Perry, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. Bacon R. III and Paula Moore of Harrodsburg, Ky., his sister-in-law Nan Moore Oldham of Washington, D.C., and several nieces and nephews.
