Burcham will replace Neal Cummins, who last month left the TCHS principal position to become the interim director of the Youth Services Center. Burcham started as the new principal immediately, Hamby said.
A press release sent out by Hamby said Burcham has been in education for 18 years, starting out in Christian and Hopkins Counties but spending most of that time in the Trigg County School System. He was a math teacher and the head football coach at Trigg County High School for the past four years.
Burcham, who is excited about his new role, said he thinks he can now play a positive role in the lives of more students than he could as a teacher and coach, and he added that he can hit the ground running.
“I love teaching math and coaching football, but now I can positively impact the lives of some 650 students,” said Burcham, who began his new position Tuesday.
He said that with a little more than three weeks until students return to classrooms, there are several vacant teaching positions to fill, including his former position as a high school math teacher, and he will also begin an immediate search for his replacement as head football coach.
Burcham said he will get with the TCHS SBDM this week to start looking for quality applicants for those positions, and that with two math teachers, one English teacher, one social studies teacher, one nurse and one head football coach to look for, there is a “critical shortage.”
