A good day to all our Veterans, Active Duty personnel and the good citizens of Trigg County that support our Armed Forces.. This coming Saturday May 15th we celebrate Armed Forces Day and Peace Officer Memorial Day.

Armed Forces Day was established on August 31, 1949 to be celebrated on the third Saturday in May, Armed Forces Day is designated to combine the independent holidays of each of the Armed Forces and to honor Americans serving in the five services, Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy. Well with the war on Terrorism and our history during WW II we should also include the men and women of Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Civil Air Patrol which is an auxiliary of the US Air Force. I will in future reports introduce you to these two civilian auxiliaries of our armed forces.

We should also May 15th honor our Peace Officers. Congress approved a joint resolution on October 1. 1962 whereas Congress requested the President of the United States designate May 15th of each year as "Peace Officers Memorial Day" the week in which is also Police Week. To further honor all fallen Peace Officers a new law was enacted which is, Public Law 103-322 that directs the flag be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Remember, every day we have Peace Officers across this nation selflessly risking their lives to protect us all, then we also have members of the Armed Forces across this nation and on foreign land selflessly risking their lives to protect us all. Peace Officers and Military personnel fulfill a great calling to protect and help the citizens of this great country. Through their continual service and sacrifice for all of us, they have earned our Respect and Gratitude.

SO Fly our American flag at half–staff on this Saturday May 15,2004 as directed by the President of these United States and show our respect and gratitude to those who serve for us.

Your American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars still need help locating veteran grave sties to honor departed veterans on Memorial Day, Believe it or not there are over 373 cemeteries here in Trigg County so we do need your helping locating every veteran’s resting place.

This week I received no correct answers to the trivia question of April 28th. The answer is "Cowboy Bob Pickett invented – bulldogging "

This weeks Trivia question is "What year did the United States Congress establish Mother’s Day""

Send your answers or comments to VETCOM, Post Office Box 1102, Cadiz, KY 42211.

Until next week this is H.W.W.

Hoping to hear from you and as always:

God Bless America, our Armed Forces, our Veterans and the Citizens of Trigg County.
