Children from as far as Clarksville and Dawson Springs flocked to Cadiz to try and land the big one. One child caught a 20-pound catfish and another caught a 5-pound carp. Cliff Cook, of Cadiz, took his stepdaughters to the event for the first time.
“I love to fish so I though we would give it a try this year,” he said.
Kathy and Drew Anderson, of Clarksville, have been attending the event for several years, but Kathy, Drew’s mother, said this is the first year they caught anything.
Along with fishing kids got to learn flyfishing from the best, Jess Miller, who is the president of the West Kentucky Fly flisherman. It was the first year Miller has had the chance to exhibit the skills of a fly fisherman and show the kids the “art of fly-fishing.”
Games and prizes were also available for kids to play for. Tackle boxes, rods and reels, and two Next bicycles were given out in a raffle drawing after the fishing had come to an end. All of the children’s names were in the raffle whether they had caught fish or not.
Cindy Sholar, Main Street Manager, as well as Judge Executive Berlin Moore were all present at the event to distribute bait and help kids get registered.
“(The kids) just love it,” Sholar said about the event. “There’s not anywhere where you can get this kind of entertainment for a dollar.”
David Thomas, who landed a fish 21 and one half inches in length, took home the biggest fish of the day.
