Local golfer Bradley Sutherland has qualified to play in a tournament at the famed Pebble Beach Golf Club later this year.

Sutherland and nine other youth golfers qualified for the event July 20 at the Atlanta Regional Open Qualifier. Sutherland finished tied for second place with an even-par 72, just one shot behind the winner, Justin Griffin of Newman, Georgia.

The finish guarantees Sutherland a spot in the First Tee Open at Pebble Beach Sept. 3-5.

The First Tee Open is a ground breaking event, offering 78 junior golfers the unprecedented opportunity to compete alongside 78 Champions Tour members and 156 amateurs at Pebble Beach.

The tournament will be televised nationally on The Golf Channel (Rounds 1-2) and on NBC the final round.

The First Tee is an initiative of the World Golf Foundation. Since its inception in 1997, The First Tee has opened 155 golf learning facilities and has introduced the game of golf to over 300,000 participants since 2000. The focus is to give young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop, through golf and character-education, life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship.

The event is presented by Wal-Mart.

Sutherland will be a senior at Trigg County High School this fall.
