A well-known business owner was fatally injured in a tragic a automobile accident Tuesday evening, August 10 around 6:15 p.m., according to a release from the Kentucky State Police.

Martha Mitchell, 37, of Cadiz was travelling with her five- year-old daughter, Megan, westbound on U.S. 68 about two miles from Cadiz just outside of Gracey. She was driving a 2003 Chevy Tahoe.

According to the police report, Steven Shreves, 24, also of Cadiz, was operating a 1994 white tractor-trailer on U.S. 68 when he pulled onto the westbound shoulder of the roadway. Shreves was coming to a stop when the incident occurred.

Mitchell was in the left lane of the roadway when, for an unknown reason, she lost control of her vehicle travelling down into the median. Mitchell then overcorrected to the right causing her vehicle to spin clockwise across the roadway and collide with the tractor-trailer in the rear.

Mitchell’s vehicle hit the trailer on the driver’s side door, where the damage was primarily located. The Trigg County Coroner pronounced her dead at the scene.

Megan Mitchell, the child passenger, was transported to Trigg County Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released. Traffic in the westbound lane was stopped during cleanup.

Mitchell was a longtime business owner in Cadiz. She had owned and operated the Cadiz Restaurant for several years. She was well known and well liked by many community members.
