On Saturday, September 18, 2004, more than 200 people gathered again at Star Camp in what is now knows as The Land Between The Lakes for the 17th Annual Lyon County Between The Rivers Reunion.

This reunion brings together families and friends required by TVA to move about 1963.

I believe this was the most beautiful day ever, with perfect weather the whole day, as former residents, friends, and neighbors gathered from all over Kentucky as well as from Texas, Michigan, Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois, and Indiana to spend the day reminiscing and visiting together.

It is always such a blessing to be together again in the area from which we all have such deep roots to remember the love, trust, and respect that we all felt for each other and to remember that area of Lyon County once known as “Between the Rivers”.

Several young ones were with us this year, but I believe four-month-old Sydney Erwin, daughter of Amie Erwin and granddaughter of Cheryl Hubbard Lowther, to be the youngest.

We would like to say “Thank You” to everyone who helped in any way to make the day special for all who attended. The U.S. Forest Service for always reserving our Star Camp area and for providing electricity, water, etc.; dear ones who faithfully bring the 10 tables each year, and the ones who quickly fill them with delicious food; and the Donald Forsythe Band that has entertained us wonderfully through the years. In his band are Jimmy Henson, Otis Elkins, Barry McDowell, J.T. Bell, Doug Champion, Sadie Gattis, and Donald Forsythe. Also playing with the band this year were Doyle O’Bryan and his son, also Terry Calhoun and 15-year-old Logan Oakley. Hope you sit in again next year. We appreciate you all so much!

We have lost so many loved ones since last year. Some of those gone but not forgotten are Mary Ann Duncan, Polly Fox Aldridge, Lunie Oliver, Don Timmons, Donnie Gentry, Floyd Hubbard, Charles McWaters, Reese Murray, Hayden Trimm, Johnny Fox, Hazel Trimm, Katherine McCoy, Monte Aldridge, Lora Pearl Fulks, James Wells, Earl Molloy, Virginia Gregory, Richard Hubbard and wife, Lester Fulks, Dorothy Oliver, Readie Whalen Driskill, Joe H. Bloodworth, Thuse Nickell, Inez Cothran, and Wayne Cothran.

This reunion is always held on the third Saturday in September at Star Camp, former site of the Dogwood Lodge once owned and operated by the Jim Beck family. Rain does not cancel this event. For more information call H.J. and Nadine Smith at 270-388-7880.
